WORLDWIDE VISIONS with a new short film category
News – 18.05.2023
The Worldwide Visions show selected films on selected themes. Alongside the Competitions and the Retrospective, they form the third and freest section in the structure of the IFFI. While the Retrospective has a fixed thematic and film-historical focus and the films for the competitions have to meet several criteria, the Worldwide Visions show films that are related to current events as well as programme items that are developed in cooperation with other festivals or cultural institutions. Classics, experimental and short films, work shows and small thematic focuses all find their place here.
NEW: WHAT'S TO COME (SHORT FILM PROGRAMME)
This year, for the first time, there is a SHORT FILM PROGRAMME, WHAT'S TO COME, which is suitable for people aged 15 and over. The programme, consisting of six short films from all over the world, is aimed at viewers aged 15 and over and is intended to be an offer explicitly for young people interested in film, in whose life worlds the films are set. Six different young protagonists are portrayed who have to deal with different challenges in their respective lives: Kees moves out of home, Carlotta lives with a terminal illness, Bai Lu experiences the loss of her grandmother, Hemi doesn't want to be who his father sees him as, Luthando explores the secrets of female lust and Liana finally wants to see her family again. On their way to adulthood, they all have to assert themselves against authorities, parents and social norms, and in the process find a path that suits themselves. With this programme, the IFFI wants to make youthful perspectives visible, offer young filmmakers a stage and introduce audiences to the genre of short film through accessible, exciting films.
IFFI SELECTION
This year's IFFI SELECTION shows 17 selected films worth seeing from various genres. Among them is the film MY SECOND HOUSE by Bert Walser, which will premiere at IFFI and portrays Innsbruck's Waldhüttl and its inhabitants, thus making the Waldhüttl visible as a flourishing centre of social cohesion, ecology, spirituality and cultural exchange. Another special film experience will be the screenings of Sergei Loznitsa's works THE KIEV TRIAL and THE NATURAL HISTORY OF DESTRUCTION. In addition, the two films on the Gros Morne National Park, GROS MORNE: A MATTER OF TIME and A NATIONAL PARKS PROJECT: GROS MORNE offer an exciting and unusual experience. To go with these two films, ZIAS is organising a series of lectures (see below, supporting programme). The IFFI SELECTION features other multi-faceted films with diverse perspectives - the entire programme can be viewed online and in the programme booklet.
