CARLOTTA’S FACE

2018, Germany

Valentin Riedl / Frédéric Schuld

Carlotta has suffered from face blindness since birth – she is unable to recognise faces. This put her in difficult situations even as a child, and to this day, she does not know what her own face looks like. The animated short film is a collaboration between neuroscientist Dr Valentin Riedl and director Fréderic Schuld. Carlotta really exists; she is an artist who makes lithography prints of her face. The film's unusual animation style mimics this technique, creating a thoughtful, atmospheric short film about a rare disease.
