FATHER’S DAY
2022, Rwanda
Kivu Ruhorahoza
The paths and fates of three families cross in modern day Rwanda: a petty criminal teaches his son the harshness of life; a woman mourns her son who lost his life in an accident; a young woman's complicated relationship with her father is put to an existential test. With minimalist cinematic means, Ruhorahoza succeeds in making a film about interpersonal relationships and trauma that is as perceptive as it is sensitive. A deeply human story in soft colours; a reappraisal of the 1994 genocide; a feminist awakening.
