LA NACIÓN CLANDESTINA

Jorge Sanjinés

Sebastián, the film’s main protagonist, accused of theft and outcast by his village years ago, also in the city cannot find happiness. He changes his name, swaps the poncho for jeans, makes a living by means of strange assignments and, being without a home, turns to alcohol. With his film, the director highlights the plight of the Aymara, who survived the centuries of Spanish exploitation as a strong, hidden nation, and in the process creates a subtly woven portrait.
