HAITIAN CORNER (2nd American Film Festival, 1993)

HAITIAN CORNER

Raoul Peck

The film is set in New York, but even the title signals that Peck is concerned with the country of his origin. "Haitian Corner" is the name of a small Haitian bookshop in New York, which is also a meeting place for Haitians who fled Duvalier's dictatorship. Joseph, the hero of the story, is one of them. He had spent seven years in the dungeons of his country before he could escape. Now he believes he has discovered in New York one of the men who tortured and tormented him there. (trigon-film)
