The International Film Festival Innsbruck, campusKino@ubik and the Innsbruck Botanical Garden are jointly hosting the IFFI Satellite event at the Botanical Garden. Thursday, 21 May | from 7.30 pm | Botanical Garden | Free admission Programme (no booking required) 5.00 pm – Picnic | Open jam session (bring your own snacks & instrument) 7.30 pm – Interdisciplinary discussion on the topic 8.30 pm – Film screening: L’ARBRE DE L’AUTHENTICITÉ (THE TREE OF AUTHENTICITY) This reflection on colonialism and ecology in the Congo Basin bridges the past and the future: the focal point is the former Belgian research station Yangambi, where the growth and ‘behaviour’ of trees were documented between 1937 and 1958. Based on journal entries, the film presents the perspectives of a Congolese scientist and a Belgian colonial officer – and then gives a voice to the 300-year-old tree Lileko. Through drone footage and dense soundscapes, pressing questions about knowledge, nature and their exploitation come to the fore.
