In 1994, Wolfgang Tschernutter, a homeless man from Innsbruck, was murdered by two adolescents. One of the perpetrators had links to the neo-Nazi scene, and the killing was preceded by years of political agitation against homeless people. Civil society campaigned for a memorial, which remains a vital place of remembrance to this day.
