Riley Keough / Gina Gammell
The Lakota Reservation of Pine Ridge is considered the poorest place in North America, with an unemployment rate of 89%. WAR PONY follows 20-year-old Bill and 12-year-old Matȟó. While Bill does various jobs for a rich white farmer, Matȟó starts dealing meth.
The script is a collaboration between friends Riley Keough and Gina Gammell, as well as Bill Reddy and Franklin Sioux Bob who hail from Pine Ridge. With its unique style, the film manages to be an unembellished portrayal of life in the Reservation, but one that never remains hopeless.
