VIEJO CALAVERA (DARK SKULL)
2016, Bolivia/Qatar
Kiro Russo
Elder has a drinking problem and a reputation as a good-for-nothing. After his father passes away, he moves in with his grandmother who lives in Huanuni. Under the care of his godfather, he takes his dad’s place in the largest tin mine in South America. But does his uncle have something to do with his father’s death? Intoxicating on many levels, the story gradually picks up speed, shedding light on the harsh working conditions deep underground. Kiro Russo’s immersive first feature-length film is as technically sophisticated as it is experimental.
