LA MATERNAL (Winner Feature Film Competition)

Carla is a rebellious teenager; her single mother is overwhelmed and unable to take care of her. When a social worker discovers that Carla is pregnant, she is moved to a facility for teenage mothers where she meets caring social workers and makes new friends. Episodically and without moral judgement, we observe how Carla – not without setbacks – grows into her new role and is able to redefine her relationship with her own mother. Some of the actors are non-professionals who speak about their own experiences. Carla Quílez makes a remarkable acting debut.
