THE INTERNATIONALE

The Internationale is a left-wing anthem. Sung by communists, socialists, anarchists and social democrats alike, it has been translated into many languages. In 1992, the Chinese band Tang Dynasty recorded it as a rock song. Siriphol appears in a Japanese school uniform in the style of famous girl groups; the lyrics of L’Internationale are faded in as if for a karaoke sing-along. In an astute interpretation, the film deals with cultural colonisation through soft power and digital pop culture in Asia.
