THE BRIDE

Rwanda, 1997: three years have passed since the genocide. Eva is a dreamy young woman who wants to study medicine. But she is abducted by a group of men as part of a traditional marriage ritual called Guterura. At the home of her future husband Silas, she makes friends with his cousin and tells her about the tragic fate of her family. Myriam U. Birara's debut as a director manages to tell a story of friendship full of sensitivity and melancholy, in the serious context of forced marriage and genocide – and also lets hope shine through.
