SOUAD (STREAM)

19-year-old Souad is caught between two worlds. On the one hand, she follows the strict rules of her family, religion, and society; on the other hand, she presents herself on social media in seductive poses. She must explore her identity between new potential freedoms and the rules of behaviour and expectations imposed on her gender. We see this right at the beginning when Souad skilfully adapts to her fellow passengers during a bus ride. With its calm, restrained camera work, the aesthetics of the film often seem documentary-like. But Ayten Amin knows how to give this aesthetic a clever twist.
