SOLIDARIDADE (SOLIDARITY)

Brazil, 2021: hundreds of thousands take to the streets during the pandemic to protest against the Bolsonaro government. Inspired by Joyce Wieland's eponymous 1973 film, SOLIDARIDADE follows the demonstrations, focusing on the expressive power of the hands – and not, like Wieland, on the feet. Gestures of affection, resistance, protection, joy or oppression become impressively visible in these images shot on Super 8mm Ektachrome.
