ШЕСТАЯ ЧАСТЬ МИРА (EIN SECHSTEL DER ERDE)

1926, USSR

Dziga Vertov

With this cine race through the Soviet world, Vertov shows the country’s economic and cultural diversity. The Soviet Union appears as a multinational mosaic of different cultures, customs, and resources, connected by the state trade organisation. One sixth of the earth – the Soviet Union – belongs to these people. Vertov contrasts the Soviet universe with the ‘land of capital’ and its entertainment industry and colonialism. With its intense rhythm and range of cinematic techniques, this is a truly contemporary film even 95 years after it was made.
