ROBOTS OF BRIXTON
2011, UK
Kibwe Tavares
In this 3D animation, UK director and architect Kibwe Tavares describes a new robot workforce — robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks that humans are no longer inclined to do. The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner-city life, living the predictable existence of a populous hemmed in by poverty, disillusionment and mass unemployment. Set in Brixton, a popular district in the south of London, the film echoes the 1981s Black community protest.
