Two young Cheyenne embark on a journey to Santa Fe in an old Buick. Buddy Red Bow, a dedicated fighter for the rights of indigenous people in contemporary America, wants to get his sister Rabbit out of prison. Philbert lives in the past and uses the trip to get closer to his goal of becoming a warrior of the spirit. Philbert, of all people, eventually succeeds in freeing Rabbit.
