PASTA NEGRA

2025, Canada/Venezuela/Italy/Columbia

Jorge Thielen Armand

Three women – a grandmother, a young woman with a baby and her mother – cross the border from Venezuela into Colombia every week to find something to eat; this time, a packet of pasta. Director Jorge Thielen Armand adapts the short story ‘Tijeras’ by Venezuelan journalist and author Karina Sainz Borgo using breathtaking 16 mm images and a dense soundscape. PASTA NEGRA shows what the act of cooking pasta in a pot becomes in a life determined by severe food shortages: a major event.
