NUESTRA LIBERTAD

2020, Sweden/El Salvador

Celina Escher

Teodora Vásquez was convicted of murder and served ten years in prison for her crime. Why? She had a miscarriage. After a tremendous effort by activists from feminist movements and human rights organisations, Teodora was finally released. Since then, she has been a spokesperson for the 16 women who are still in prison for the same ‘crime’. Teodora has become a symbol for all those who suffer from the cruelty of El Salvador's unfathomably misogynistic justice system and its criminalisation of abortion. This is also a film about sisterhood, resistance, and solidarity.
