NEŽNOST’ (TENDERNESS)

1966, USSR

Ėl’er Išmuchamedov

Tashkent in the 1960s. Three novellas about first love and disappointment. Sandžar falls unhappily in love with Lena. Lena is traumatised, as she had to leave the besieged city of Leningrad and is now happy with Timur until the two are separated forever. The schoolgirl Mamura comforts Timur with whom she has fallen in love. The production of the film was interrupted due to a devastating earthquake in 1966. As many locations were destroyed and the imposed curfew made filming even more difficult, the original concept was abandoned and gave way to a great deal of improvisation and hidden camera work.
