NEPTUNE FROST

2021, USA/Ruanda

Saul Williams / Anisia Uzeyman

Set in Rwanda, this musical love story between an African intersex runaway and a coltan miner premiered at Cannes Director's Fortnight 2021. Written by the American singer and slam poet Saul Williams, co-directed by the French-Rwandese actress and filmmaker Anisia Uzeyman, this cosmic blast is Williams’s debut film. With a soundtrack also signed by Williams, this technological and working-class revolution shot in Kinyarwanda is maybe one of the more indefinable films recently originating from the African continent.
