NAZARBAZI (Winner Short Film Competition)

After the Islamic Revolution, men and women touching each other was banned in Iranian cinema. Maryam Tafakory arranges a number of scenes that deal with this prohibition quite creatively, with looks and gestures from actors, symbolic images, such as flames on water, as well as poetic and philosophical snippets of text. The result is a vivid document of desire that draws its strength from resistance – and goes hand in hand with current events.
