MOTHER, I AM SUFFOCATING. THIS IS MY LAST FILM ABOUT YOU

2020, Lesotho/Katar/Germany

Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese

A woman walks through the dusty streets of Lesotho with a cross on her back. Another knits a garment incessantly and wraps the thread around a boy's head. Flocks of sheep move through a mystical and beautiful landscape. In this black-and-white cinematic lament, the director settles accounts with his homeland of Lesotho. This documentary essay film is a deeply personal examination (oscillating between hatred, anger, and love) of his relationship with his homeland and his newly acquired outsider’s perspective. It’s also a meditation on the legacy of colonialism, identities, and Christianity in Africa.
