MEU SEMBA (MY SEMBA)

2026, Angola

Hugo Salvaterra

X, Lelé and Maria are navigating working-class life in Angola’s capital. Having grown up in a church-run orphanage, they now, as young adults, try to scrape by on precarious jobs. X, the outsider, roams Luanda with the keen eye of a poet and begins to rap to convey his experiences and express his observations. A pulsating urban symphony, a powerful manifesto and a hypnotic portrait of a young generation – set against the backdrop of battle rap and semba, urban life and cultural heritage, driven by a desire for social change.
