MARTES DE CH’ALLA

2008, Bolivia

Carlos Piñeiro

The first short film by Bolivian filmmaker Carlos Piñeiro is named after a Bolivian holiday during Carnival that worships Pachamama, the Andean goddess of the Earth. Through 8 mm footage, cameraman Pablo Paniagua – who has contributed significantly to all of Kiro Russo’s films – captures how construction workers in La Paz celebrate the festival, loosely and freely. On this day, a ritual blessing is sought for all those involved in the construction of a new office building, embedded in music and dance, drinking and masking.
