MANAS

2024, Brazil/Portugal

Marianna Brennand

13-year-old Tielle lives on the island of Marajó in the north of the Brazilian Amazon region with her parents and siblings. Her life seems carefree: school, church, friends, family. That changes drastically when her father begins to exploit his daughter’s unawareness of what sexual assault means. Without ever explicitly depicting the acts, director Marianna Brennand tells a story of abuse within the family that took years of research. Tielle experiences patriarchy in all its harshness – but she will fight back.
