MADALENA

In a small town in Mato Grosso, where monocultures have replaced the rainforest, Madalena, transwoman, is murdered. From the perspective of three people who were connected to Madalena in different ways, we learn about this rural, at times absurd community, social hierarchies, and high-tech agriculture. About Madalena and her murder, however, we learn very little. But her ghost seems to be present in brief horror film-like moments. This omission becomes a strong metaphor for social conditions on the ground.
