LITTLE PALESTINE: DIARY OF A SIEGE

2021, Lebanon/France/Qatar

Abdallah Al-Khatib

Established in 1948, the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk with its 100,000 inhabitants has long been a part of Damascus. Following clashes between the Free Syrian Army and Assad's troops, Yarmouk was besieged by government troops, leaving the remaining population to their fate. Abdallah Al-Khatib lived in Yarmouk and filmed everyday life during the siege for four years. While the atmosphere at first seems to be carefree, it becomes more and more oppressive the longer this situation and the hunger persist. This film shows a huge tragedy about which far too little is known.
