LANDRIÁN VUELVE AL BAILE
2023, Cuba/Spain
Ernesto Daranas Serrano
Nicolás Guillén Landrián was a documentary filmmaker from 1962. Considered the first Afro-Cuban filmmaker, he initially supported the revolution but his poetic, experimental films soon became a thorn in the public side. Some of his films were locked away for decades; Landrián himself was interned and imprisoned several times. When Ernesto Daranas learnt that the negatives of Landrián's films were in poor condition, he decided to restore them and document the process.
