JUKU

2011, Bolivia/Argentina

Kiro Russo

Mount Posokoni is home to the largest tin mine in Bolivia and the whole of South America. Every day, more than 10,000 people descend into its depths. This is where darkness reigns, and it is the movements of the workers and their lamps that create organic images. The miners talk about the ghost known as Cholita, who sabotages their work, negligent foremen and toxic gases that suddenly appear and envelop them. Doing this job illegally is even more dangerous: one of the miners, whom they call Wolf, risks running out of oxygen while frantically and illegally mining on his own.
