JARIPEO
2026, Mexico/USA/France
Efraín Mojica / Rebecca Zweig
Every year, the Jaripeo attracts thousands of people to Penjamillo. Director Efraín Mojica returns to explore the bull rodeo culture as a gay man: hyper-masculine cowboy style and excessive partying have always been part and parcel of the Jaripeos, but now Mojica and Zweig discover a complex, partly hidden community. They meet Noé and Joseph, who are navigating different paths of queer existence. Using digital and Super-8 film, the directors atmospherically portray identities shaped by tradition and desire, who assert themselves in a seemingly clearly defined world.
