Cabo Verde is a country of emigration: around half of all Cabo-Verdians live in a diaspora. In aesthetic tableaux, Denise Fernandes’ feature-length debut film tells the story of Nana, a girl whose life is characterised by departure, as her mother has left the island as well. When Nana, who is well cared for as she grows up, begins to suffer from mysterious health problems, the volcanic landscape takes on a leading role as well: Dreamlike encounters set against this backdrop prepare Nana, unbeknownst to herself, for an important decision.
