GESTURES TOWARD PLANTVISION
2021, Canada/Italy
Sarah Abbott
A cinematic meditation about the visual perception of plants: neurobiologist Paco Calvo outlines the potential for plants to have this ability, his words echoing the interplay of light, colour and the movement of leaves. Sarah Abbott encourages us to think about ways in which botanical life can neurobiologically generate images that allow them to perceive movement, form, colour, light and/or time in stillness. This deliberate speculation about how plants ‘see’ challenges the presumption that humans and animals are unique in their optical sensory perception.
