ESQUÍ (SKI)

Telling the story of the major ski resort of Bariloche in Argentina, ESQUÍ cannot be assigned to any category. La Banca combines different themes and associations, gradually building up political suspense. He sets the scene for indigenous legends and borrows from trash, adds found footage about the development of the winter sports resort in a technoid rhythm, uses documentary scenes about young people’s life in the barrio, and shows his own derriere in a thong. The critical view of tourism suddenly becomes highly political because of the history of colonial oppression of the Mapuche and Tehuelche.
