Ženya is right at home in the club scene. The buzz, letting go, even the annoying men – it all seems to come easily to her, even though many things are more difficult for her than for her friends. But Ženya is self-assured. She is proud to be inter and trans, and she embraces and demonstrates her gender identity and sexuality with confidence. Madina Mustafina portrays Ženya and her queer underground community in radically intimate, raw, aesthetic digital images: low resolution, unfiltered (body) language and, at times, a touchingly gentle glimpse into the process of transition.
