EL GRAN MOVIMIENTO (THE GREAT MOVEMENT)

2021, Bolivia/Qatar/France/Switzerland

Kiro Russo

Elder and two other workers join the miners’ protests in La Paz and drift through the city on the lookout for jobs and beer. A market woman thinks she recognises Elder as a godchild and finds him work. When he falls ill, she finds him a shaman (or is it a hermit?) and his feverish hallucinations also infect the 16 mm film material. Mysterious interpretations compete with sober observations in this hypnotic cinematic experience, an urban symphony for La Paz – the least Europeanised city in Latin America, according to Kiro Russo.
