DESTERRO

Laura and Israel live a middle-class life with their son in São Paulo. And yet their relationship seems to have grown cold. Suddenly Laura disappears to Argentina. When Israel learns that she has died, there is no time to mourn: He must organise the body’s repatriation.  Here, the spoken is in contrast with the unspoken. As we follow Laura's journey at the end of the film, an explicit commentary on societal expectations of women forms. The film is a successful mix of perspectives, harmoniously staged conversations with delicate details, and angry moments set to punk music.
