DAYS OF CANNIBALISM

2020, France/South Africa/Lesotho

Teboho Edkins

Teboho Edkins‘ documentary western from Lesotho revolves around the conflicts between the pioneers of a new, capitalist order, i.e. ambitious Chinese traders hoping for their great chance far from home, and the Basotho people who cultivate their traditions as cattle breeders and for whom their cows are “gods with moist noses.” Linguistic confusion reveals deeper-lying problems of understanding. The filmmaker deals with questions of assimilation and the importance of rules under new conditions. This is globalisation under the microscope.
