When Milo Rau staged the Passion of the Christ in Matera in 2019, his answer was: Yvan Sagnet, a political activist from Cameroon who fights against the exploitation of illegal agricultural workers. The film combines footage with a look behind the scenes. The boundaries between Sagnet, the activist, and the actor depicting Jesus blur as he speaks at protests. Milo Rau wants to change the world with his work. He seems to have succeeded with this film – housing conditions have improved and a fair-trade label for tomatoes has been introduced.
