CHUQUIAGO
1977, Bolivia
Antonio Eguino
Four episodes in Chuquiago (the name of La Paz in the language of the Aymara people), four people from and in different social classes: little Isico works for a market woman; young adult Johnny, who also belongs to the Aymara, dreams big; Carlos is a family man who likes to party a little too much; and Patricia, a student, is a rebellious daughter from a rich family. Impressively showcasing the Bolivian capital, director Antonio Eguino uses these protagonists to explore the search for one’s own place in a society shaped by colonialism.
