The light in the depths of a coal mine 500 metres below the ground is sparse. It is here that Kyrgyz miners have to meet their daily target. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to find coal in safe areas. The risk increases with every strike of the pickaxe. The foreman has to decide how far to go and what risks to take.
