AUGURE
Baloji
In his film debut, Baloji deals with post-colonial identity, influenced by his own autobiography. Allegations of witchcraft determine the protagonists' fates: Koffi's conspicuous birthmark is interpreted as a sign of the devil, and his mother is therefore considered a witch; Paco is blamed for the death of his sister; Tshala doesn’t have children and is confronted with spiteful gossip. AUGURE is staged as a magical event without explicit conclusions and poses questions about modernity, mythology and fair coexistence.
