Donbass in 2025: A year ago, Ukraine won the war. Rubble and ruins and traumatised people are what’s left. An industrial company decides that mines should be secured and bodies recovered. But maybe there is another life for Sergyj after all? The silent tableau-like shots are in sharp contrast with fast-cut excerpts from Vertov’s ĖNTUZIAZM: SIMFONIJA DONBASSA (quoted in the film). ATLANTIDA’s Donbass bears no resemblance to Vertov’s place of upswing, hope and progress.
