APENAS EL SOL
2020, Switzerland/Paraguay

Mateo Sobode Chiqueño spent his childhood in a forest without any contact with white civilisation. The Ayoreo, the people to which Mateo belongs, were still an uncontacted people at that time. This changed all of a sudden when Christian missionaries arrived in the 1970s. They forced them to leave behind their territory, their faith, and their homes. Mateo begins to record stories and songs from other Ayoreo with his cassette recorder. Keeping the cassettes, he preserves fragments of a vanishing culture. A visually and conceptually outstanding film and at the same time an important historic document.
