AMÍLCAR
2025, Spain/Portugal/France/Cabo Verde
Miguel Eek
Amílcar Cabral, agronomist, political theorist and revolutionary, was the leader of the first resistance movement in sub-Saharan Africa, which achieved independence from colonial rule in an armed fight. Using his poems, letters to both his wives and political pamphlets read by Cape Verdean director Nuno Miranda, Miguel Eek traces the life of Amílcar Cabral. Associative sequences of images, police reports and archive footage come together to create a multi-layered portrait of a diplomatic, yet at times ruthless, visionary who fell victim to an assassination in 1973.
