A ÚLTIMA FLORESTA

Luiz Bolognesi

In search of gold, garimpeiros often venture into indigenous territories. Gold mining poses multiple socio-ecological challenges from deforestation to mercury pollution of bodies of water and a series of violent conflicts. At the same time, the promises of gold and "modern" life are transposed to the the indigenous communities. Along with shaman and writer Davi Kopenawa, anthropologist Luiz Bolognesi develops a multi-layered picture of the Yanomami people as they navigate between indigenous cosmology, a non-dualistic view of nature and culture, and struggles for indigenous rights.
