Diego Quinderé de Carvalho starts his cinematic voyage of discovery with a relic from home: a few photographs he took years ago in Brazil, revisited now with the appreciation of distance: 8,500 kilometres divide the Amazon from the Ardennes forest in Belgium, where his film is set. In Brazil, he only looks at the inaccessible and menacing forest from the outside. Its Belgian counter part, however, is easy to explore: everything is laid out by people and neatly ordered. A geologist, a gold miner and an astronomer provide insights for an exploration of the origin of existence and the future of our planet.
