ALS DIE SONNE VOM HIMMEL FIEL

The filmmaker Aya Domenig is of Japanese-Swiss origin and intended to trace the life of her grandfather – after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the United States Army Air Force on 6 August 1945 – Shigeru Doi worked as a doctor in a Red Cross hospital in Hiroshima and the filmmaker tries to find closer to him. Aya Domenig meets Chizuko Uchida (born 1923), a former nurse, her grandmother and Shuntaro Hida (born 1920), a doctor, the second Hibakusha who is portrayed in the documentary film – they have a similar fate as the filmmaker’s grandfather who throughout his life never spoke about what he had experienced. While researching her film in Hiroshima, on 11 March 2011 the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster occurs, and the filmmaker’s intention takes a turn. Regie: Aya Domenig Schweiz 2015 78min, OF­eUT

WAALO FENDO

Yaro, a young Senegalese, lands in Italy, his head full of dreams of Western opulence. He invites his younger brother Demba to join him. Together they will be able to make money to send home to the family. Two months later Yaro is murdered not far from Milan’s Central Station. Demba wants to know who killed his brother, and why. BRASILEIRINHO

BRASILEIRINHO is a musical documentary film about Choro, the first genuinely Brazilian urban music that has become a fascinating style of modern tropical sounds in the last 130 years. It was back in the late 19th century in Rio de Janeiro when Brazilian musicians started to blend European melodies, Afro-Brazilian rhythms and the melancholic interpretation of the Brazilian Indians’ music to create the Choro. It was performed in beer halls as well as in dancing and concert places and is credited as being the first musical expression of Brazil’s melting pot and had a prominent place in the development of Brazil’s cultural identity.
