In this well-made film about social conflicts in Upper Volta, emigration out of a village with its old traditions and into the bigger job market of a city does not prove to be the success that one young man had wanted. This very realistic story relates the misadventures of three young rural emigrants in the town and denounces a serious problem in Africa, which is rooted in the incompatibility of the old traditions with the modern world. Playing the character of the blacksmith is Sotigui Kouyaté (silver bear for the best male performance in LONDON RIVER at the Berlinale 2009).
A comedy set in contemporary Burkina Faso tells the story of a World War II veteran who has been trying for more than 50 years to obtain his well-deserved military pension. Convinced that he will be paid shortly, Sogo buys a mill on credit for the village. But the money does not arrive.
