Between 1940 and 1960, the period following India’s independence, the rather unenviable destinies of four women from Kerala take place: a married, childless woman, a young virgin forced by her father to join a man to take care of his household – and possibly more, a spinster confronted with the moral standards of a reactionary society and a prostitute who tries to change her life.
